FEAT - Family Enterprise Assessment Tool

What is FEAT?

FEAT – Family Enterprise Assessment Tool, developed by Dennis T. Jaffe, PhD and Caroline Coleman Bailey of Premier Growth, is used as a foundation for proactive family governance and legacy planning.

Most families struggle with engagement and communication at some level. Add a family business and geographic dispersion into the mix and it can be even more complicated. FEAT can be a game-changer for cultivating a thriving family legacy. It helps bridge the gap that may be separating families and bring them back to the table.

Benefits of FEAT

  • Opportunity for proactive planning
  • Understand family perceptions
  • Provides structure for productive conversations
  • Allows every voice to be heard

Find out more about FEAT here.

Why now?

I’m a FEAT Certified Facilitator, and use the tool as part of onboarding for family enterprise clients.

Because families sometimes are “not ready” to proceed, I’m now offering FEAT as a separate short consult to families to assess what they are doing well and possible areas of improvement.

The FEAT Assessment Consult includes the following:

  • Planning meeting
  • Administer FEAT to nominated family members
  • 90 minute debrief and report to leadership group

David is one of the most insightful thought leaders on family dynamics. I regularly read his newsletter and value his perspectives. I read his book “Transition” when I first started studying and applying the intellectual discipline of family business succession planning. It sits on the bookshelf beside my desk and I often refer back to it. Its wisdom is universal and timeless.
